In this workshop, hosted by GoodTherapy.org, Dr. Erica explains how introspection, life review, mindful awareness, touch and somatic body psychotherapy can facilitate and enhance the health and well being of the baby boomer population as they continue to come of age in this decade and beyond.
This Web Conference is designed to help clinicians and the general public to:
1) Identify and critique the most common myths about aging in American culture
2) Facilitate introspection, life review, and mindful awareness for yourself and for clients
3)Understand the benefits of mindfulness, touch, sensuality and sexuality for healthy aging
4) Discover how making the mind/body/spirit connection can be a catalyst for healing.
In 2011, the first wave of Baby Boomers turned 65 years old. Baby Boomers have reached an age of no return. They have passed the midlife crisis. They cannot go back and undo many of the choices and actions taken.
Erik Erikson, renowned ego-psychologist and prolific author in the mid-twentieth century, defined later adulthood (60-75) as the years of “Wisdom,” a time when an individual maintains his or her “integrity,” develops a sense of fulfillment about life and a sense of unity with self and others or falls into a state of “despair” about what has not been accomplished. Some healthy baby boomers may even continue to fulfill Erik Erikson’s earlier stage, Generativity vs. Stagnation, thereby delaying the aging process.
Your body holds the key to your own health and wellness. Your body doesn’t lie. If you listen to your body, pay attention to its subtle and sometimes not so subtle messages, you can maintain a state of health for many years to come.
Sharing cutting edge research and real life healing stories, Dr. Erica explains the healing potential of gentle touch therapy. She categorizes the vast array of different modalities and explains how the combination of talk and touch through somatic body psychotherapy can break through emotional and physical defenses.
Through enhanced mindful awareness, your body is able to finally let go of habitual tension patterns . This helps you to become aware of sensations and express emotions you may not have known you were feeling. As your body lets down and lets go, your brain is able to shift the way it processes old memories and current events, so that you can develop a more comprehensive and uplifting perspective on your entire life.
