Love in the Age of Covid 19 and Beyond: A Tribute to the Class of 2020

IS THIS PANDEMIC GETTING YOU DOWN?

TALK TO ME

Feeling alone, isolated and sad?
Struggling in a relationship?
Recently broke up?

I CAN HELP

I BELIEVE

WHERE THERE IS LOVE THERE IS A WAY.

In a recently published article I wrote at the very popular relationship web site YourTango.com I revealed the many negative emotions aroused by this pandemic and the upside – the power of love to overcome and heal from anything.

On Saturday evening, May 16, 2020, CNN hosted a wonderfully inspiring tribute to all the 2020 high school graduates.  Before watching this happy event, I felt unsure and even hopeless about the future of our country for the younger generations who have not yet enjoyed so many of life’s adventures.  And then I realized, this new generation also has a new perspective and enhanced skills and knowledge beyond what their ancestors have been able to use.  So our hopes and dreams for the future will rest upon the next generation – as it should be.

Our task as elders, at any age beyond those high school and early college years, is not to just sit back, relax and continue in our old ways.  Our task is not to ask what the next generation can do for us, but:it is time for us, every one of us, to ask:

“What Can WE DO NOW for the next generation and the generations after that?.

What can we, as elders, do?  We can provide love – profound, self-enriching, everlasting love:

  • Be the love that young people are seeking
  • Be the loving inspiration for others, young and old
  • Be the loving supporter of your own and other people’s dreams
  • Be the loving educator by sharing your personal, even painful, experiences.
  • Be the wise elder, non-judgemental, open, listening, caring and responding

In this post, I want to share a few valuable links to remind you that yes, love can and will overcome.

How has Covid 19 affected the way we love and the way we interact with new and potential partners?

On my Women and Love Summit,no longer the live free summit but still available for the small post-summit fee, I interviewed the prolific author and TedX speaker, Dr. Helen Fisher.  Her groundbreaking book: Anatomy of Love, she explains the workings of our brains and the hormones released when we feel those loving feelings.

I was delighted to read a recent article published in NYTimes.com by Dr. Fisher entitled:

How Coronavirus Is Changing the Dating Game for the Better.

She talks about the many benefits of distancing and online connection.  One aspect is evening the playing field in terms of finances.  There is no conflict of who will pay for the dinner or movie and less judgement about the other person’s financial status.  Since physical contact and sexual intimacy is out of the equation, men and women are taking more time to get to know each other, to share drinks and meals from their own homes, and to talk about what matters most to them.

And then there is an incredible TEDxOlympicBlvdWomen talk by Tracy McMillan that every one of us could benefit from watching.  She did not grow up in easy circumstances.  Yet she found a way out of the morass to recreate her life, learn how to love herself and thereby become accessible to receiving nurturing love from others.

Finally, I want to share 2 poems with you to warm your heart and open your mind to joy and possibilities of touching each other with love, giving, receiving, giving love and feeling that love come boomeranging back to you in the most delightful and unexpected ways.

The first poem is one I wrote in a moment when my mind, body and spirit were touched by love.

LOVE TIPTOED IN

Finally, let me end by sharing a few words from Louise Hay, posted on social media, November 8, 2018

The Ocean of Life is lavish with its abundance.
All my needs and desires are met before I ask.
My good comes from everywhere and everyone and everything.
There is plenty for Everyone, including ME!

  • Are you ready to discover the magic of living your life in love?

Personal and professional training has taught me that when we strip away the many layers of protection and when we begin to approach others with curiosity, wonder and love, miracles do happen.
